BRYU Members Charged with Stealing 700 Mln BYR
14:34, 11/09/2006

A new scandal around the organization which belongs to the Belarusian Republican Youth Union has started. The law-enforcing agencies are interested by the work of an experimental youth association “Palesse” which is submitted to the BRYU. This association is in charge of building elite apartments and offices in Brest and Pinsk. However, “Palesse” failed to finish this construction on time, Radio Svaboda informs.

Investors charge the administration of the association with unauthorized use of the money received for the construction. According to the preliminary information, while building only one object (a house in Ordzhonikodze Street in Brest) about 700 mln rubles disappeared from a bank account.

At the moment all property of “Palesse” is arrested on the ruling of the regional economic court. The founders of the association, responsible persons of the BRYU, give no comments on the situation.

As we have informed, this summer the leadership of the BRUY was charged with violation of Lukashenka’s decree “On counteraction to human trafficking”. The BRYU for many years has been organizing construction parties and sending young people to summer rest and work abroad and in different regions of Belarus. But this summer girls returned from Anapa and told to Belarusian press that the employers seized their passports, refused to pay money for them. The girls were used for unskilled labour instead of the work they had been invited to.
