Belarusian Protestants Lodged a Complaint against Minsk Authorities 18:00, 19/10/2006

Parishioners of the New Life Church have lodged a complaint to the Supreme Court of Belarus against the authorities of Minsk that demand to vacate the building of the church. Protesting against the ruling of Minsk city executive committee, 153 persons went on hunger strike on October 6. They stay in the building of the church transformed into a place for worship.

Policeman Broke Nose to Activist in Baranavichy 16:16, 19/10/2006

On October 16 in Baranavichy during a solidarity action one of policemen brutally beat up a young activist Zmitser Palojka. A camera, a purse with 50,000 BYR and some personal things were seized from him without making an inventory. As informed by the human rights center “Viasna”, on October 18 a medicolegal investigation showed that Zmitser Palojka’s nose had been broken and a bone dislocated.

Today, on October 19, a statement has been made that 4 more members of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union (BITU) are joining the hunger strike of an electrician of a joint stock company “Belshyna” Alena Zakhodzhaya. On October 16 a chairman of the primary organization of BITU of a joint stock company “Belshyna” Ryhor Spasiuk circulated a letter informing that several trade union members would join the hunger strike. 
Zmitser Dashkevich to Stand Trial on October 30 12:07, 19/10/2006

The case of one of the leaders of the “Young Front” organization, Zmitser Dashkevich, is to be considered in the court of Kastrychnitski district of Minsk on October 30. The Charter’97 press center was informed about that by a youth leader Artur Finkevich. The case is to be tried by judge Ala Bulash. Zmitser Dashkevich is charged with participation in activities of an unregistered organization. He faces up to two years of imprisonment.
