Martynau: Belarus and Iran have Wonderful Relations

Foreign Affairs minister Syarhei Martynau highly estimates the level of Belarusian-Iranian political relations, stating that the visit of Alyaksandr Lukashenka to Teheran planned for November would allow increasing the economic cooperation between the countries up to that level. “Our political relations are in a wonderful state, and our aim for today is to boost economic relations to the level of political ones,” the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told in an interview to journalists, summing the results of his visit to Teheran.

On October 22 representatives of law-enforcing agencies sealed a Zhodzina office of a public association of Afghanistan war disables persons, and on October 23 a search was held there. About 300 copies of the newspaper “Narodnaya Volya”, computers and 300 forged dollars were confiscated. The search has been carried out in the framework of the criminal case brought up against Alyaksandr Kamarouski, the chairman of the public association of disabled Afghan war veterans after 500 forged US dollars were found in his things at Belarusian-Polish border on October 21 overnight. The leader of disabled Afghan war veterans was on his way to Warsaw for a meeting with partner organizations representatives. In Brest customs office forged banknotes were suddenly found in his hat. Brest customs officers and policemen took him off the train and interrogated him for many hours.

Today, on October 24, one of the participants of the fasting and hunger strike, who had been recommended to stop the protest yesterday, has been urgently hospitalized. The reason is overall health deterioration, weakness and pulselessness.

OSCE Monitors Hunger Strike At Belshyna

On October 24 a representative on human rights of a Minsk bureau of the OSCE, Fiona Frazer met with employees of Babruisk-based enterprise Belshyna (Mahilyou region). The BelaPAN has been informed about that by one of the participants of the hunger strike, a chairman of the Belarusian independent trade union (BITU) at Belshyna Ryhor Spasiuk.

8 Protesters Continue Hunger Strike in Babrujsk

A hunger strike of members of the Independent trade union continues in Babrujsk. They are carrying out a strike at their working places. The Administration of the factory has partially met claims of the protesters. They have been promised to get bonuses received by members of the official trade union. However, the administration of the plant refuses to register the trade union branch.

Gas Pipelines of Ukraine, Belarus Leave Underground

On the threshold of Fradkov’s visit to Ukraine, the latter has announced potential creation of a new gas alliance. As it turned out, Ukraine intends to rebuild the gas pipeline to Belarus and ship up to 10 billion cu meters there. At least officially, Belarus turns down the partnership offer for the time being.

Polish Film Director Not Allowed to Come to Minsk

Yesterday in Minsk an opening night of a film “Lessons of Belarusian” of a Polish filmmaker Miroslaw Dembinski took place. The author of the film couldn’t be present there, Radio Svaboda informs. Only on October 25 Belarusian authorities are to give him an answer concerning his entry visa.

Belarusians’ Greatest Fear is Prison

As said by Belarusian human rights watchdogs, 20% of prisoner in prisons of Belarus are former directors of state enterprises or private businesses. A great likelihood to be imprisoned for even a minor offence alarms Belarusians.

Ukraine to Deliver Turkmen Gas to Belarus?

Ukraine is ready to deliver to Belarus about 10 billion cubic metres of gas from Turkmen volume allocated by the company RosUkrEnergo for Ukraine. As said by sources in the cabinet of ministers of Ukraine, Belarus has addressed with the offer of such scheme itself, as it is the most profitable one in deliveries of gas at the CIS territory, Kommersant writes.

No Opposition In Election Commissions

Entry to EU Banned For Belarusian Judges and Prosecutors

The Council of EU countries has extended a list of unwelcome officials for whom the entry to the territory of the EU is banned, Radio Svaboda informs. They are a judge of the court of Maskouski district of Minsk Alyaksei Rybakou, who had passed a verdict to the former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin, 5.5 years of imprisonment; and a worker of the prosecutor’s office of Maskouski district Syarhei Bortnik, who was a state accuser in the process of Kazulin.
