Svyatlana Matskevich Fined for Attempt to Visit Mayor’s Office 18:00, 27/10/2006
A wife of the political analyst Uladzimir Matskevich, who continues hunger strike in support of the New Life Church, Svyatlana Matskevich, has been sentenced by the court of Maskouski district of Minsk to a fine of 5 basic units (BYR 155,000).
The woman was charged with insubordination to policemen’s demands.
Yesterday relatives of the hunger strikers from the New Life Church, tried to visit the deputy chairman of Minsk city executive committee Mikhail Paulau. Relatives of the protesters wanted to ask the deputy mayor when the question of the worship building of the New Life would be solved. More than a hundred people are continuing their protest for more than 3 weeks already. However, they were pushed out from the building of City Mayor’s Office by unknown people in mufti. A wife of the political analyst Uladzimir Matskevich, Svyatlana Matskevich, was arrested by those people. She had simply asked the people in mufti to show their credentials and tell their names.
