Property Union of Poles in Belarus’ Activist Distrained

Workers of the State Security Committee (KGB) have distrained property of Hrodna activist of the Union of Poles in Belarus Andrzej Lisouski. Now the fate of his property is to be decided by the court. As we have informed, Lisouski had been charged with drugs trafficking. The illicit drugs were found in his car in the end of October, when he was on his way from Vilnius to Belarus with the chairperson of the UPB Andzelika Borys.

Belarusian “Chamber Sitters” Intimidated by Hague Tribunal

A so-called “chamber of representatives” of Belarus has adopted a statement demanding to stop activities of the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague. The statement has been passed in connection with a trial over Vojislav Šešelj, a Serbian nationalist tried for war crimes.

Kazulin Denies Help of Prison Doctors

A former candidate for presidency in Belarus, Alyaksandr Kazulin, who is serving the sentence in a colony Vitsba-3, does not use assistance of doctors of the colony in the period of transition from the hunger strike that lasted for 53 days. “He does not want to cooperate with the doctors and acts according his own system,” told an Interior Minister of Belarus Uladzimir Navumau in Minsk.

In 2007 Belarus can be left without cheap imported energy completely

Belarus has lost all sources of cheap energy, RBK daily informs. Since January 1, 2007 cheap Russian oil will disappear. There is no agreement on the price for Russian gas, besides, Belarus could be deprived of cheap Ukrainian electricity, Kyiv demands to increase prices. Belarus is discussing possibilities of energy supplies from Russia. In case Minsk would not have money to pay for electricity, Russia could accept energy assets on account of realization.

Bug Placed to Mikalay Statkevich’s Work Location

Officers of the KGB department of Pukhavichy district have placed a bug in the premises where the political prisoner, a leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic party (Narodnaya Hramada) Mikola Statkevich works. The Charter’97 press-center has been informed about that by Mikola Statkevich, who is serving a sentence in the village of Blon Pukhavichy district of Minks region. He had been sentenced to two years of corrective labour for organizing mass protest actions against rigged results of parliamentary elections and a referendum.

Tsimafei Dranchuk to be Released Earlier

A supervising committee of Frunzenski district executive committee of Minsk has decided on a conditional early release of a campaign for elections observation “Partnerstva” Tsimafei Dranchuk. The Charter’97 press-center has been informed about the father of the political prisoner Valery Dranchuk. The date of release is to be announced on December 22, when the court of Frunzenski district of Minsk would study the case.

Central Europe’s Newspapers Demand to Release Belarusian Oppositionist

Top newspapers of Central Europe “Gazeta Wyborcza” (Poland),”SME” (Slovakia), “Lidove Noviny” (the Czech Republic), “Lietuvos Rytas” (Lithuania) have published open letters to their governments with a call demand Belarusian regime to release a former presidential candidate, a political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin who was on a hunger strike in a corrective colony “Vitsba-3” for 53 days. Kazulin demanded to consider the Belarusian problem in the UN Security Council. “We demand our parliaments and governments to call for release of Alyaksandr Kazulin immediately,” the newspapers write.

Verdict to Former Judge Reversed

On December 13 a college on Criminal cases of Homel regional court of Svetlahorsk regional court to punish a former judge Syarhei Yarashevich for insulting judges from Rahachou. On November 4 S. Yarashevich from Zhlobin was sentenced for 2 years of corrective work with paying 20% of salary under the verdict of Svetlahorsk regional court’s judge Natalya Belajchuk.

Today Early Release of Tsimafei Dranchuk to be Considered

The issue of conditional early release of a campaign for elections observation “Partnerstva” Tsimafei Dranchuk is to be considered by a supervising committee of Frunzenski district executive committee of Minsk. As the father of the political prisoner said, this information was confirmed to him by different agencies, including the penal jurisdiction department of the Interior Ministry of Belarus.
