Election Committees Never Stop to Think How to Turn Down Oppositionists
14:38, 19/12/2006

In Hrodna a deputy chairman of the United Democratic Party Uladzimir Chyrvonenka and the head of the city branch of the Belarusian Popular Front party Syarhei Malchyk have been denied registration as candidates for deputies on directly opposite reasons.

Uladzimir Chyrvonenka has not been registered because in a form he wrote his address according to the place of registration, a hostel, the UCP press-service informs. The director of the vocational school to which the hostel belongs informed that though U. Chyrvonenka is registered there, he doesn’t live there. The deputy chairman of the UCP has been denied registration as a candidate for Hrodna regional council because his actual address does not coincide with the address of his registration.

Quite opposite situation is with Syarhei Malchyk. He is registered in Brest region, but lives in Hrodna. In the form he wrote his actual place of residence. Besides, he submitted a residential lease agreement. He has been denied registration to run for the city council of deputies of Hrodna. In Hrodna city election commission Syarhei Malchuk has been explained that the reason is that formally he does not live and work in Hrodna.

"It is nonsense: one candidate is not registered on this reason, and the other on the opposite one. The election commissions have come to two mutually exclusive decisions," the head of Hrodna regional branch of the UCP underlined.
