Second Official Warning to Political Prisoner Artur Finkevich

The administration of Mahilyou corrective labour facility of an open time has issued a second official warning to a political prisoner Artur Finkevich. Actions of the director of the corrective labour facility are aimed at depriving the activist of liberty and sending him to a colony, the Young Front believes.

Opposition Activists Detained in Brest Region

Democratic activists Andrei Sharenda and Dzyanis Turchanyak were detained in Brest. The press-service of the United Civil party has been informed about that by the candidate for deputy of Brest regional and district councils Stsyapan Navaselchan. The detainees have been taken to the police department of Maskouski district on Brest. It is known that Dzyanis Turchanyak was detained on suspicion in a carjack.

Children From Vilnius Not Allowed to Enter Belarus

Belarusian authorities have thwarted an exhibition of pictures by children of Vilnous arts school. The exhibition was to be opened in Minsk, Polish Radio informs.

Policemen to Give Back Leaflets to BPF Leader Only After Election

Campaign leaflets of Vintsuk Vyachorka, the leader of the Belarusian Popular Front party, and of some other candidates of the party, are checked for containing infromation infringing the law. Economic crimes department informs that the leaflets are to be checked until the end of the election campaign, January 15.

Police was beating up young activist for few hours

Vorsha policemen have been interrogating an activist of the Young Front Syarzhuk Huminski for several hours. They handcuffed him, and then clubbed and kicked him, the press-service of the Young Front informed.

Lyabedzka Detained Again

Yesterday evening the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka was detained by police again. His agent Antanina Kavalyova was taken to the police department of Savetski district of Minsk together with him.

Radio station in Gomel refuses to air opposition candidate`s speech

A state-run radio station in Gomel has refused to broadcast a pre-recorded speech by a member of the nationalist Conservative Christian Party who is running for the city soviet. As Vladimir Shitikov told BelaPAN, the city radio station`s deputy chief editor called him on Wednesday, offering apologies and explaining that the central election commission had banned the network from airing the speech for the second time.

Amnesty International Holds Action of Solidarity with Kazulin

Human rights organization Amnesty International has called upon its members to send letters of solidarity and support to the former candidate for presidency in Belarus, a political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin, to Vitsebsk colony No.3, and to send letters to Belarusian government demanding immediate release of Alyaksandr Kazulin as a prisoner of conscience.

Russia Set to Demand Compensation of Damage from Belarus

On Wednesday, January 10, 10.30 p.m. Minsk time Russia resumed pumping oil to Europe. Belarus started again delivering oil in the point of Adamava at Belarusian-Russian border. A few hours previous to it Minsk and Moscow stated that they reached an agreement on Russian oil transit in principle. Meanwhile, the head of Transneft Semyon Vainshtok told in an interview to Interfax that Transneft is not going to drop claims to the Belarusian side, connected to transit disruption and Russian oil siphoning off. “I can say one thing. We have estimated our losses at 9 million rubles and Homel enterprise is to compensate it. We shall demand to return this money. I cannot say about further claims now,” Vainshtok said.
