Prayer Service for Roman Catholic Church 13:40, 16/05/2007
On May 16, on the Day of Belarusian Solidarity, a common prayer near the St. Joseph church in Minsk (Cyril and Methodius Street, 4) will start at 7 p.m.
As we have infirmed, according to recent reports the chairman of Minsk city executive committee signed the plan of reconstruction of the former Bernardine monastery. The project includes full reconstruction of the monument of architecture of the 17th century into a hotel complex, consisting of restaurants, underground parking, a pool and other entertainment facilities. The cultural and scientific importance of the unique monuments of architecture is not considered, and returning of the building to its legal owner, the Roma Catholic Church, is not mentioned.
Every Wednesday young people gather on the steps of the former St. Joseph church to pray for return of the church and monastery buildings to believers, the UCP press-service informs.
