Site for atomic power station to be chosen in several months
17:05, 24/05/2007

Site for atomic power station construction is to be chosen in several months. That was reported today by head of the center for energy efficiency of the National Academy of Sciences academician Alyaksandr Mikhalevich at the meeting with deputies of the house of representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

He remarked that presently a deep boring for researching the Kuvshinovsky and Shklovsko-Gorevsky sites suitability for construction was being conducted in the Mogilyou region. According to him, in several months it will be possible to choose one of them as the major site within the project of the atomic power station construction and the other will become a spare site.

Alyaksandr Mikhalevich also reported that while choosing the potential sites the international recommendations on biological parameters, the level of safety and others had been taken into account.

As it was reported earlier, in 2007 Belarus was to finish theoretical explorations and choose a strategic partner for implementation of the project of the atomic power station construction and start negotiations with technologies and equipment supplier. Belarus is going to start practical realization of the atomic power station construction in 2008. The first 1 thousand megawatt block is to be put into operation in 2014.

It is to be mentioned that today the training of deputies of the House of Representatives on the subject of "Legal Support for the Power Engineering in the Republic of Belarus” has been conducted on the bases of the Lukoml hydropower station.
