Over 100 students of the Garodnya lyceum and Garodnya State University have signed the appeal for releasing Margarita Tsaran. The 20-year –old girl was convicted to 4 years in prison for buying 0.28 grams of marijuana. Those who have signed the appeal consider the former university student’s verdict to be unfair and the criminal lawsuit against her to be the result of mistake or provocation.
The overt letter in defense of Margarita Tsaran the Garodnya lecturers and students sent to the head of the country as well as to the Public Prosecutor General and chairman of the Supreme Court, the Radio Svaboda informs.
At the trial the former student was defended by the lawyer and the student’s mother. According to her, the militia actions were aimed at shielding the university lecturer who was selling drugs and Margarita was simply used.
“We have a question concerning this lecturer. We are surprised of such effrontery – the man promotes drugs, the man tells the students about the positive effect of drugs, sells the drugs, and then gives frank evidence –and then disappears”, Valyantsina Tsaran says.
Teacher of law Andrei Zdasyuk disappeared and it was the student who appeared before the judge and then was sentenced to 4 years in prison.
