Today young activists have held an action near Kamarouski market in Minsk. The action goes before the European March which is to take place in Minsk on October 14. Young people handed out European flags and offered passers-by to wear blue ribbons if they are supporters of friendly relations of Belarus and the EU.

A group of opposition activists held a founding conference for an association named Belarusian Christian Democracy (BCD) in Minsk on Saturday, BelaPAN reported.

A district police department in Homyel has thrown out a complaint filed by opposition activist Andrey Tsyanyuta in connection with his arrest last month. The young man was picked up by police in downtown Homyel on August 9. He was released shortly afterward but had his stuff seized without any explanations and returned only four days later.

I am a Catholic. I believe that Catholic priests behave in our situation like real spiritual leaders should behave,” the politician said in an interview to the Charter’97 press-center.

Could Russian nuclear missiles soon be returning to the foreign soil of Eastern Europe? That may be Moscow`s response to U.S. plans to deploy anti-missile-defense radars and missile batteries in Poland and the Czech Republic. Russia`s ambassador to Belarus, Aleksandr Surikov, said last week that Russia and Belarus were preparing "a response to Washington" that could include "nuclear facilities" in Russia`s tiny but loyal western neighbor. The last Soviet-era missiles were removed from Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan more than 10 years ago, as part of a U.S.-backed disarmament program created by Sens. Richard Lugar and Sam Nunn. But Russia has changed vastly since those humiliating post-Soviet days, and the Kremlin is now in the mood to arm, not disarm.
