Andrei Sannikov: The European Union would like to see when the definite relationship between the opposition and authorities starts

“Representative of the European Union pays special attention to the European March preparation .Information on the March as well as on the dialogue with the authorities suggested by the democratic forces has been considered by the European Union representatives as a very important event in the life of Belarus. Certainly they will follow the authorities’ responses to the preparation for the march and they would like to see when the definite relationship between the opposition and authorities starts”, international coordinator of the Charter’97, former deputy foreign minister of Belarus Andrei Sannikov declared after coming back from the annual Economic Forum held in Polish town Krinitsa. Economic Forum brought together 3000 representatives from more than 60 countries – including European commissioners, presidents, outstanding policymakers (among them former presidents of the Czech Republic and Poland Vatslav Gavel and Aleksandr Kwasnevsky), prime ministers, governmental and parliamentary delegations, NGO’s representatives, experts and political figures, journalists, economic and cultural leaders.

Beaten up when detained

Among the activists detained near the Baranavichi district court were youth leaders Zmitser Fedaruk, Pavel Sevyarinets, activists Ivan and Ilyia Shilas, photo –correspondents of the Reuters and France Press Vasil Fedosenka and Viktar Drachou.

Mass Detainments near Baranovichi Court

Around 20 people have been detained in Baranovichi where the trial of the Young Front activist Yaralsau Grischenya is being held. People standing at the court building and shouting “Freedom!” and “Long Live Belarus!” were being detained by the special militia regiment (former OMON). Among the detainees are photo –correspondents of the Reuters and France Press Vasil Fedîsenka and Viktar Drachou.

Mines of Orsha Battle Times Searched by Militia

Around 100 opposition activists were detained 8 September, the Day of Belarusian Military Glory in Orsha and Mahyliou. Only in the Krapivenskaya field were the bards’ fest was to be held over 40 people were detained. The group of 20 public activists was detained in Mahyliou. In Orsha the people were taken off trains and busses and after several hours’ detainment forced to return to their places. But 9 September another 20 people were detained in the Krapivenskaya field. Among the detainees there were many well-known people: bard Andrei Melnikau, artist Ales Pushkin, youth leaders Zmitser Fedaruk, Andrey Sharenda, activists Ivan and Ilyia Shila.
