Today the Belarusian political prisoner Andrei Klimau is 42.The politician celebrates his birthday in the cell of the probation jail in Valadarsky Street.

Opposition leader, deputy of the Supreme Council of the 13th convening Andrei Klimau was arrested 13 April 2007 for publication of the news story in internet. The criminal case was brought against him under Article 361, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus “calling for overthrowing or changing of the constitutional system through mass media”. Andrei Klimau is kept in investigatory jail N1 in Minsk. When in jail, the politician suffered heart attack.

1 August Andrei Klimau was sentences to 2 years in prison of strict regimen at the practically closed court trial. Journalists and human rights activists were not informed on the date of the trial and the public learned about the Klimau’s verdict only in a month.

Previously Klimau, active opponent to Lukashenka, spent 4 years in prison on charges of economic crimes and then he sentenced to 15 month of hard labor for organizing the street action on the Day of Freedom in 2005.The Amnesty International admitted Andrei Klimau the Prisoner of Conscience.
