Neither Gazprom nor Beltransgaz shed light on the current situation with the payment for the Russian gas supplied this August. Nevertheless, the deadline is approaching. Belarus must clear the gas payment before September 23.

There are no signs of anxiety before the payday, which will come in three days, at the Belarusian gas transporting enterprise. “The deadline for the payment for the Russian gas supplied in August hasn’t come yet. We will make a correspondent statement in time - I believe, on September 24, after the weekend,” Uladzimir Chekau, Beltransgaz press-secretary told Charter’97.

The press-secretary wasn’t ready to name the amount of the August supplies saying he had no necessary upgraded data available at that moment. Belarus is known however to have paid $ 150 mln for 1.5 bln cubic meters of gas supplied in July.

According to the contract signed previously, Belarus is to settle payments for gas supplies before the 23rd each month. At the same time, Gazprom representative Sergey Kupriyanov doesn’t say whether Belarus has paid for the gas supplied in August. As the press-secretary of Gazprom remarked, the 2008 gas price for Belarus is to alter according to the formula written in the contract.
