Natallia Pyatkevich‘s reply to opposition?
18:11, 21/09/2007

Youth leader Andrei Kudin was detained today for distribution of the “Vibar” (Choice) newspaper reporting on the European March which is due 14 October in Minsk. The activist was guarded to the Partisansky district court of Minsk where Judge Mikalai Trubnikau sentenced him to 10 base rate penalties (Br 310 thousand). The judge concluded that the activist called people for participation in the unsanctioned action.

It is interesting to know that this year the authorities have conducted the campaign “For Independent Belarus” and it was finished with the concerts in the city center. The opposition has also been conducting the European March campaign for several months and the European March on 14 October is to become the key event of this campaign.

To make a breakthrough in the European direction and save the Belarusian economy the opposition persistently suggests the authorities to hold the European March together. The negotiating group of the European March sent a corresponding letter to the deputy chairman of the president’s administration Natallia Pyatkevich. However, the authorities and, particularly, deputy chairman of the president’s administration keep silent, on the one hand, and initiates repressions against pro-European-minded youth, on the other hand.

Such standpoint may cause not only refusal of economic assistance demanded by the authorities from Europe but to new sanctions to be imposed .And chairman of the president’s administration Natallia Pyatkevich and internal minister Uladzimir Naumau will be responsible for that.
