ASTRA writes that in the Soviet years, a Radio Engineering Center for Long-Range Reconnaissance and Air Defense Guidance was created on the top of Mount Ai-Petri. The domes of protective radar structures in the form of balls often attracted the attention of tourists.

Earlier, journalists wrote that radar complexes are located under the domes, and there is a military camp nearby for those who service these facilities.

The 3rd Radio Engineering Regiment is a military formation within the radio engineering troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
