Today Minsk city authorities can give the official permission for holding of the European March. The ambassadors of the EU members have spoken in support of the peaceful action and will be following it very closely.
The local authorities can give the answer to the permission for holding of the European March during the day. According to the Belarusian legislation the permission for holding of a public event must be given not later than 5 days before the action.
“The action will take place on the time announced – 14.00 14 October from Kastrychnitskaya Square to the Library. The only thing the authorities can do is to permit the action and not to prevent. Then they can demonstrate they have settled down to a course of improvements”, - Viktar Ivashkevich, European March organizing committee head reported to Radio Svaboda.
Andrei Sannikov, the negotiation group of the European March organizing committee member, international coordinator of Charter’97 remarked:
“Now it depends on the authorities, how to decide an issue, because the question is not in the European March itself, not in the oppositional demonstration, it is in the relation between Belarus and Europe. I think the reaction will be suitable. Europe is waiting for the positive sign. It is still possible to do. I think there is the time to decide an issue. We are ready for that. We have organized the negotiation groups, sent the corresponding appeals and are negotiating with the official personalities.
