We have no anti-Semitism, just vandals on cemeteries?

Republican human rights public association Belarusian Helsinki Committee organizes an action timed to the International day against fascism, racism and anti-Semitism 9 November.

As Tatsiana Gatsura, head of the commission on youth rights said to BelaPAN, the committee members will spread the leaflets with the information about Crystal Night during the day. Crystal Night was the first mass pogrom against Jews in Germany and Austria at the night of 9-10 November 1938.

The Belarusian human rights activist remarked that the number of pro-fascist organization is not monitored officially in Belarus. But, according to her, the acts of vandalism on the Jewish cemeteries have become more often for the last time. In this connection Tatsiana Gatsura reminded that monument to the Holocaust victims “Yama” (Pit) in Minsk was damaged last year, after BHC had held an action there – laid flowers and lightened candles.

It should be reminded that by the instigation of the Nazi authorities the members of the youth organization Hitler-Jugend killed 91 Jews, hundreds of Jews were wounded and maimed, thousands were tortured and humiliated, about 20 thousands were arrested and sent to concentration camps. At that night 267 synagogues, 7.500 trade and commercial enterprises and hundreds of Jewish houses were burned and ruined. According to the plans of Nazi authorities, the final aim of the Crystal Night was destruction of all Jews.
