Medvedev offered Putin to become prime-minister

First Prime Minister of Russian government and Vladimir Putin’s preferred successor, asked the president to head Russian government.

The address was broadcasted by the TV channel Vesti-24. In case of Medvedev’s leaving the presidential position, Putin will automatically become an acting president, like it was in 1999.

“It is not enough to choose a new president. It’s no less important to preserve the capable team formed by the current president,” he stated. Reading from the Teleprompter, he said: “I believe that it is principally important for our country to keep Vladimir Putin at the most important position of the executive power, at the position of the chairman of the government of the Russian Federation.

“Expressing my readiness to stand as a candidate in the presidential election, I ask him (Putin) to agree to head the government of Russia after the election of the new president,” Medvedev said.

He added that to guarantee the continuity of the policies of the country, it is also important to preserve the capable team formed by the current president.

He reminded that it was Putin who headed the list of the largest party, “Edinaya Rossiya”, that won an impressive victory in the election to the State Duma. “The new legislative and executive power could work effectively only having this team,” Medvedev added.

Addressing the congress of the Edinaya Rossiya, Vladimir Putin stated that his heading the government is possible.
