Injured Young Front Leader Visited by US and EU Ambassadors (Photo)

One of the Young Front leaders Zmitser Fedaruk has been placed to Minsk clinical hospital No. 9. He was taken here unconscious after riot policemen beaten up him during disband of the rally “For independent Belarus!” yesterday US Ambassador Karen Stewart and the head of the diplomatic mission of Slovakia Lubomir Rehak. Slovakian Embassy in Belarus functions as the representation of the EU.
Zmitser Fedaruk told to Radio Svaboda:
“Ambassadors told about the statement of the US Department of State, and about the press-conference on the day before. Yesterday a meeting in the US Embassy dedicated to political prisoners had been planned. Unfortunately I could not be present there.
The Ambassador expressed concern over such a treatment of the young Belarusians, that people are beaten up during rallies, peaceful demonstrations for just having national symbols with them.
They said they would follow the situation closely and would adopt a resolution at the EU summit in Lisbon.
That means that this Putin’s visit will evoke a wide response. There are plans to impose Russian policy to Belarus, and this reason could help, and it could be prevented”.
On December 12 during disbanding of the demonstration “For independent Belarus!” on the Kastrychnitskaya Square several persons were injured. Not only young people, but pensioners got hurt as well. An elderly man was beaten on legs. He was crying that he was a disabled person, but riot policemen were not stopped by that, and the man was knocked to the ground.
The US Department of State condemned beating up of the protesters and the brutal disband of the peaceful rally. In addition, politicians and international human rights organizations have expressed their protest against actions of the Belarusian regime against the participants of the protest rally “For independence” which was timed to the visit of Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Zmitser Fedaruk was placed to the department of complex traumas of the clinical hospital No.9. Doctors have diagnosed bodily blows and head injury.
