Zmitser Bandarenka: “I support KGB chairman”

“Statements of the KGB chairman instill optimism in me,” said the Charter’97 coordinator Zmitser Bandarenka, commenting on the statement of Yury Zhadobin concerning opposition activities.

“Once secret services of a 15 million Czechoslovakia put their opposition at 50 “destructive elements”, who had 500 “sympathizers”. It haven’t prevented Czechoslovak dissenters to organize “the velvet revolution”. Belarusian secret services believe that we have 1,767 active oppositionists. And the number of sympathizers should be a lot more,” Bandarenka noted.

The Charter’97 coordinator agrees with General Zhadobin, that most oppositionists do not struggle for power. “They struggle for freedom and independence of their country. And the threat to national security (I support the KGB chairman in this issue) does not arise from opposition, but from Lukashenka’s officials who are blacklisted by the European Union and the US. As is known, people suspected of political assassinations, brutal disband of peaceful protest rallies, rigging election results,” Bandarenka said.

As we have informed, the chairman of the KGB Yury Zhadobin during his first press-conference in the new position told about opposition. Having reported about foreign spies, he told that he knows all the oppositionists by name, and there are 1,767 “destructive elements”, but they do not constitute a threat to the national security.
