117 pickets against repeal of benefits

Activists of the Brest Area Coalition of the United Democratic Forces sent 117 applications for holding pickets against repeal of social benefits. 65 applications were submitted in Brest, 37 – in the Brest District, 11 – in Baranavichy and 4 – in Belazersk.

All actions of protest are planned to be held on 16 December, on the day of solidarity with political prisoners, and ahead of the effective day of the law “On State Social Benefits, Rights and Guarantees for Certain Categories of Citizens.” BelaPAN learnt it from Valyantin Lazarankau, deputy head of the area organisation of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Gramada).

“We are going to speak how the state is rolling back social protection of population, guaranteed by the Constitution. The adoption of this law violates foundations of the constitutional system of the Republic of Belarus as a social state. We are also going to speak about drop in the living standards of the majority of population in general, which has felt it due to price hike of staple foods,” V. Lazarankau said.

According to him, the activists are going to spread information material, dedicated to the problem of repeal of benefits.
