Protestants against Lukamol

Heads of Protestants confession of Belarus signed an address to the head of the President’s Administration and the Minister of Education, where they said about their concern that “administration of educational establishments makes students join public organisations, in particular the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organisation (BRPO) and the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM, or colloquial Lukamol, similar to Komsomol in the USSR).”

“Belorusski Partizan” learnt it from the Information Center Evangelic Belarus. “Neither we nor our children want to have something in common with these organisations, spiritual heirs of former communist atheistic unions. We think entry by force these organisations violates principles of voluntariness, equality and demonopolization,” the address says.

The addresses to the head of the President’s Administration, the Minister of Information, and editor-in-chief of “Sovetskaya Belorussia” and the head of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company were signed, calling to stop advertising in press and TV all possible occult practice and beliefs.

“It has become popular to use services of tarot masters, specialists in parapsychology, psychics, clairvoyants, and quacks. Hypnosis treatment of alcoholism and smoking is offered as panacea for these habits. Spiritualism is familiar thing even at schools. TV and press are in avant-garde of all this. They bring this spiritual poison to every home, every family,” bishops say. “We are convinced the unhealthy interest in the other world and indifference to promotion of witchcraft are troubling signs of spiritual degradation of the society and losing of traditional Christian values. We believe the only solution to this problem is return of our people to God, to his eternal truths proved by time, return to Christian morality. We urge to stop any kind of advertising of occult character.”
