Opposition can take part only in free elections

A meeting of Alyaksandr Milinkevich with democratic activists of the region has been held in Hrodna. The strategy of Hrodna region participation in the political campaign-2008 has been discussed.

Opinions on the format of the election campaign have divided. Part of active members, mostly young people, supported participation in the election campaign. Work of the movement “For Freedom” activists should be the most noticeable; they are to become leaders of the campaign in their regions. According to young activists, such political campaigns give additional possibilities for communication with population, which interest in political life is growing. In its turn it allows to involve new people to the oppositional organizations.

As for the activists with long experience of political struggle, they favour non-participation in the political elections. Their results will be rigged. It is impossible to resist rigging election results, as election campaigns are made of people who please the vertical of power. Representatives of oppositional parties and public associations are not allowed to become members of electoral commissions.

According to Alyaksandr Milinkevich, participation in parliamentary elections could take place only under certain conditions:

“Participation in election campaign is possible only in case if representatives of democratic forces could take part in election commissions, and if an equal approach of all candidates to state mass media would be guaranteed. Otherwise one shouldn’t exclude that most democratic candidates will withdraw their candidatures.
