As informed by Monika Deptula a spokeswoman of Amnesty International Poland, there are still no signals from the Belarusian side, but it is still relevant.
“For the moment the organisation hasn’t received official answer, but we will try to open our office in Belarus, in order to have a possibility to monitor the situation with human rights, and also carry out independent research related to holding elections and censorship in mass media. Besides, we want to realize special projects. We are doing our best, but it is hard to say whether the authorities would give us permission. Everybody hopes for that,” Monika Deptula said to Polish Radio.
She notes that for Amnesty International Belarus and issues connected with it are a priority.
The organisation has sent a request to the Belarusian government with a demand to reverse the Article of the Criminal Code which prohibits activities on behalf of unregistered organisation, and ceaselessly calls upon the Belarusian authorities to join the moratorium on executions with a view to abolishing the death penalty.
