Leader of the Great Libyan Revolution Muammar al-Gaddafi arrived with an official visit t Minsk on November 2.
The honorary guest was met by Alyaksandr Lukashenka at Minsk airport.
The national flags of Belarus and Libya were hoisted at the airport to mark the arrival of the Libyan leader. After the national anthems of the two countries were played, the distinguished guest received the report of the Commander of the Guard of Honour Company. Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Muammar al-Gaddafi presented the members of the official delegations to each other.
Accredited in Belarus ambassadors of the Arab countries attended the meeting at the airport. The leaders of the two countries review the guard of honour.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka told at the airport that Belarus and Libya had possibiliites for development of the bilateral relations.
“I think there are possibilities to outline cooperation areas for advancing our relations,” he emphasised.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka confirmed that the agreements reached with Libya eight years ago remain in force.
The head of state said it was a great pleasure for him to receive Muammar al-Gaddafi in Belarus. “I remember our meeting in Libya. I am very glad how your country is advancing. Libya is a rapidly developing country, we wish you prosperity and wellbeing,” the President of Belarus said.
The Libyan leader confirmed the intention to develop cooperation with Belarus. “I am happy to visit Belarus as we had been long waiting for this meeting. We appreciate your principled position and stability. We took note of a considerable breakthrough Belarus had made in its development,” Muammar al-Gaddafi said.
The Libyan leader praised the development of the relations between Libya and Russia, other CIS countries. “The development of your region (the Commonwealth of Independent States) is highly important for maintaining the global balance of forces,” Muammar al-Gaddafi stressed.
On November 3, Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Muammar al-Gaddafi will hold a face-to-face meeting and extended talks. The two leaders are expected to sign a set of bilateral documents, in particular, Convention on Avoiding Dual Taxation and Evasion of Taxes on Income and Property, Protocol on Cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Belarus and the General People's Committee for Justice of Libya, Memorandum of Understanding between the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus and the Libyan National Center for Standardization and Metrology on Cooperation in Standardization, Metrology and Compliance Evaluation, and Agreement on Cooperation between the Belarusian State TV and Radio Company and the Libyan General Association of TV Broadcasting.
In total, more than 10 bilateral agreements are being prepared, among them draft agreements on cooperation in agriculture and animal industry, air traffic, crime control, higher education and culture as well as cooperation between superior economic courts.
The visit of the leader of the Great Libyan Revolution Muammar al-Gaddafi will last from November 2 to November 4. He is expected to visit the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War, lay a wreath to the monument of Victory in Minsk. The leaders of the two countries are to have talks and sign a set of bilateral agreements on November 3.
