Oppositionists detained in BSU campus for leaflets with disappeared

1

On December 16 in a campus of the Belarusian State University 5 activists of “Young Belarus” movement including their leader Artur Finkevich were detained.

Beside Finkevich, activists Ales Stsepanenka, Valery Sakovich, Syarhei Kastylenka and Aleh Kerol were detained.

Activists of the “Young Belarus” were handing out leaflets with information about the disappeared Belarusian politicians. It was also reminded in the leaflets that on the 16th day of every month solidarity actions dedicated to the abducted are held in Belarus.

Activists of the “Young Belarus” were detained by people in plain clothes who behaved boorishly. They snatched leaflets from the hands of students and activists, tried to provoke a fight. After detention of the activists by the people in the plainclothes the head of the police of Maskouski district of Minsk arrived in a car. He ordered to take the young people in the police department.

Artur Finkevich told on the phone that the actions of the police once again show the real face of the so-called “liberalization”. “It is clear that no liberalization should be expected. The real intentions of the Belarusian regime are absolutely clear – the regime fears the youth, fears the truth about the abducted Belarusian politicians, and they would carry out their policy of hushing the truth by all means,” Artur Finkevich said.
