Belarus and Russia started preparations for military exercises West-2009

A group of representatives of the General Staffs of Armed Forces of Russia and Belarus started propagating of the joint strategic exercises West-2009.
“A joint group of representatives of the General Staffs of Armed Forces of the two states begins work on the supposed sites of exercises to reconnoitre,” Aleksandr Yanovski, desk officer of the Main Operative Department of the general Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said in Minsk on Wednesday.
He added that the exercises would be conducted on the territory of the both states, Interfax reports.
It should be reminded that Anatoly Serdyukov, head of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, said the drills must become “another practical step in training of our military forces and promoting of effective security system of the “union state”.
