Belarusian nuclear physicists to be trained in Russia

24 Belarusian nuclear physicists will be sent to Russia in January 2009 to complete training.

Lilya Dulinets, head of the section of international cooperation, personnel training and information support of the department of nuclear energy of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus, said it at a press conference on December 4.

According to her, the state programme of personnel training for nuclear power industry up to 2020 includes training of specialists abroad, BelaPAN reports.

“We will sign a contract till the end of the year, and our specialists will go to one of the Russian higher education establishments in January,” L. Dulinets said. She supposed the training course would take place in Obninsk. On a question why the specialists go to Russia while a contractor for the nuclear plant construction in Belarus hasn’t been defined yet, the representative of the Ministry of Energy said “it is easier for them to study in Russian and in French or English”.

Besides, according to L. Dulinets, a mission of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on training personnel for the nuclear power engineering industry is to visit Belarus on January 14-15. She said there is a programme on development of workforce capacity and training system for workers of Belarusian nuclear power industry among the Belarusian projects in the frames of cooperation with the IAEA. The project budget is $700,000, the representative of the Ministry of Energy said. “The resources will be sent to render aid in advisory expert support for Belarus, holding of trainings and seminars, visits to nuclear objects, improving of regulatory and legal framework in personnel training sector,” L. Dulinets stressed.
