Young leaders of Belarus held meetings with rte former Polish president, “Solidarity” leader Lech Walesa, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and Foreign Minister of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski.
“I liked the meeting with Walesa. We told him that his life journey is an example for us and for freedom fighters all over the world. We told about the imminent trial over the political prisoner Alyaksandr Barazenka. Besides, a meeting with Radoslaw Sikorski was held. We reminded that none of the elections in Belarus were recognized as free and democratic since 1996, so talks of the West with Lukashenka without participation of the civil society cannot take place, as this procedure is illegitimate and does not represent people of Belarus. Radoslaw Sikorski has also expressed concern over the impending trial over the activist of the “European Belarus” Alyaksandr Barazenka, and promised to mention it during the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the European Union which is to take place on December 8 in Brussels,” the Charter’97 press-centre was informed after the conference by “European Belarus” activist Alyaksandr Atroshchankau.
On December 5, after the official opening of the conference, a meeting of Yauhen Afnagel, Alyaksandr Atroshchankau, Pavel Yukhnevich with Dalai Lama took place.
“We told about human rights situation in Belarus, about the imminent trial over “European Belarus” activists Alyaksandr Barazenka. The spiritual and political leader of the Tibetan people expressed concern over the situation in Belarus. For me it is an example of a person who has demonstrated how much could be achieved when you stay true to your country, your principles and ideals of freedom and justice,” Alyaksandr Atroshchankau said.
