Universities must compensate students for lost benefits

Higher educational establishments form special commissions for compensation for travel expenses to students. The Ministry of Education demanded it after benefits had been cancelled. Uladzimer Kolas, head master of the closed by the authorities Belarusian lyceum, thinks in such a way the authorities are trying to reduce the negative reaction of the Belarusian society towards the cancel of social benefits.

The higher educational establishments must compensate students for travel expenses from their budget. The special commissions are formed for that purpose. But administrations of universities are reluctant to speak about such payments.

Universities will need to compensate for fares from scholarship fund. It is designated for scholarships, material help, but not for mass payments. So, the Baranavichy University offers its students a compensation of 3.000 rubles. The Minsk University of Culture is considering a question on pay for city travel card. In this connection both students and universities face lots of problems.

Uladzimer Kolas, head master of the closed by the authorities lyceum, commented on this:

“The authorities reduce the negative reaction of the society towards the cancel of benefits in order not to admit their mistakes, those strategic mistakes in economy. They shift problems to education sector.
