The tide of public discontent caused by actions of traffic policemen and their commanding officers has taken a form of a civil protest “Human Shield”.
Numerous Minsk drivers have attached white and black ribbons and signs “Human Shield” to mirrors and wind screen of their cars. Some of them put the article from the newspaper “Autobusiness-Weekly” “Sentenced to Death by Traffic Police” to their cars.
Drivers’ indignation was caused by events on March 2 when traffic officers barred the road with cars with people inside to stop a drunken driver, rushing at 180 km/h.
The incident was hushed up for 10 days, and only yesterday reports about it appeared. Commanding officers of traffic police tried to refute the reports. Meanwhile victims of the event filed a statement to the prosecutor’s office.
