Navumau ready to release Kazulin if “proposed”

16

There are no grounds for amnesty of the former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin, stated the Interior Minister of Belarus Uladzimir Navumau at a press-conference in Minsk on March 3.

The head of the Interior Minister has stressed that the Ministry doesn’t have grounds to request amnesty for Alyaksandr Kazulin, and it won’t do that, as an amnesty in particular requires conscientious serving the term by the prisoner. At the same time, as U. Navumau noted, A. Kazulin had four penalties. The last of them was received in December 2007. The Charter’97 press-center has informed about these penalties.

That said, after the words that Kazulin cannot be amnestied, the head of the Interior Ministry noted: “If there will be other proposals, we shall act upon them”.

As we have informed, the former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin was arrested on March 25 2006 and sentenced to 5.5 years in a colony for staging mass protest rallies against rigged election results.

The European Union and the US demand immediate and unconditional release of the political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin. Only after that the official Minsk could expect normalization of relations with the West.
