Artist Ales Marachkin released

2

Ales Marachkin, artist and public activist, head of the international World Association of the Belarusians Batskaushchyna, was released on 29 March after his 5-day arrest.

“The meanest thing in my conviction is evidence of representatives of the law enforcement bodies, saying I used foul language and offered resistance,” A. Marachkin said in the interview to BelaPAN.

According to him, there are no foul words in Belarusian language he speaks. “So, evidence of representatives of the security agencies is not true. By the way, it’s not usual for European countries to summon representatives of the law enforcement bodies as witnesses,” the artist said.

A. Marachkin noted the representatives of security agencies, who burst into his workshop on 24 March, seized work Dolls, gonfalons of the Frantishak Skaryna Belarusian Language Society, and banners “25 March is Freedom Day and our holiday!”, “Belarusian language is spirit of nation!”, “A Belarusian lived and will live! Yanka Kupala,” “Don’t be afraid! Joan Paul II” and others.

“Taking into account unlawful actions of militiamen in my workshop and perjury of militiamen, instead of signature I wrote in the report: “It won’t repeat any more!” A. Marachkin stressed.

According to the artist, administrative arrest, the reason for it he sees in attempt to isolate him from participation in the action on 25 March, creates ideas for his new works.

Moreover, A. Marachkin said he was going to seek returning of his arrested works.
