Oppositional activists dismissed even from private firms

6

After rallies on Freedom Day Vitsebsk activists are facing problems at work. The leader of Vitsebsk branch of the Conservative Christian party Belarusian Popular Front Yan Taupyha has been offered to quit the job when he returned after the arrest served for participation in the rally.

After he spent 8 days in the remand prison, the management of the private firm decided that it is unsafe to have an employee who is an oppositionist, Radio Svaboda informs.

Mr. Taupyha says that he is not aggrieved by those who had offered him to quit. When he went to Freedom Square in Vitsebsk on March 25, holding a white-red-white flag, he was aware of the possible consequences of that action.

Emergence of white-red-white flags in Vitsebsk was a pretext for firing an activist of the Conservative Christian party Belarusian Popular Front Alyaksandr Salauyan, who had also worked for a private firm. A few days ago the unitary enterprise was visited by policemen, in order to find out more about Salauyan, and about his connection to activities of a legendary Miron. After the visit the administration offered the oppositionist to leave of his own accord.

Vitsebsk activist Hanna Latyshava has been warned about personnel reduction. She will be made redundant. She had taken part in a memorial action dedicated to Iryna Kazulina. During the rally held in Vitsebsk on March 25 the activist was noticed by a representative of the management of the personal services enterprise where she works as a sewer. And now the woman who is to be retired in less than 2 years faces a risk to become jobless.
