Zmitser Dashkevich: “Real work in electoral districts is important for us”

1

One of the leaders of “The Young Front” organization Zmitser Dashkevich has commented on the statements of the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka.

As we have informed, Anatol Lyabedzka has stated that in connection with the fact that the Young Front has left the coalition of the United Democratic Forces (UDF) and joined the idea of election boycott, three electoral districts have vacancies in the single list of UDF candidates. He has offered Alyaksandr Milinkevich, Stanilsau Shushkevich and Alyaksandr Yarashuk to run as candidates.

“After the “Young Front” left the UDF coalition, we have stated that we are not going to make alternative lists, but we are not demanding any quotas from the UDF either. All members of our organisation, who want to take part in the parliamentary campaign, participate as persons, not as YF members. First the UDF co-chairmen agreed with that position, stating that any person who is ready to sign the common strategy on behalf of the coalition, has a right for equal participation in the election campaign as others do. Now leaders of the UDF state their desire to give electoral districts of our organization members to symbolic figures of the Belarusian democratic movement: Milinkevich, Shushkevich, Yarashuk. It is not a stumbling block for us. We are ready to cede the districts to these highly respected and reputable persons. The question is whether they would agree to participate,” Dashkevich said.

But as Dashkevich thinks, these persons are unlikely to have such a desire.

However, as said by the youth leader, the Young Front has a different vision of the parliamentary campaign. “For us the main thing is not an allocation of electoral districts, but a real work in them and raising society’s protest sentiment. This rise is possible, as even now, in the beginning of the possible boycott campaign, half of the Belarusians know that election results are falsified. The question is: “Whom the Democrats are going to invite to the election, if they do not believe in the fair election themselves?” Dashkevich said.

As said by Dashkevich, during the parliamentary election campaign the Young Front is to encourage the Belarusians to defend the right of just vote count actively, and to oppose a possible falsifying of the election results.
