Aleksei Makarkin: “If Medvedev paid his first visit to Belarus, it would draw critics of Western media”

The first countries, where new Russian president Dmitry Medvedev goes to, are Kazakhstan and China. Belarus, in spite of “union” relations, is on the sidelines. The experts are sure if Medvedev paid his first visit to Belarus, it would draw critics of the Western media.

– If president Medvedev paid his first visit to Belarus, it would certainly draw critics of western media, so much the more that there are many painful issues in the relations between Russia and Belarus, for instance, financing of the “union state,” – Aleksei Makarkin, assistant general director of the Center for Political Technologies, comments to “Moskovsky Komsomolets” on the first abroad tour of the Russian president. – If he went to Ukraine, there’s a difficult for Russian situation, too. So, this predictable, stable CIS partner of Russia had been chosen. China has been chosen as one of the main centers of world politics.
