Belarusian yachtsman sailed English rivers under white-red-white flag (Photo)

Belarusian citizen Zmitser Smelyanski, living in US Boston, took part in the 52th annual wooden yacht tour in Norfolk Broads, East England under Belarus national white-red-white flag. The Belarusian said it in the letter to the Charter’97 press center.

“My name is Zmitser. I am a Belarusian citizen, resident of Boston (USA). This year my English friends invited me to take part in the 52th annual wooden yacht tour in Norfolk Broads, East England. I was the first foreigner who was honoured to take part in such tour. These yachts are unique even in England, where the traditions are honoured and preserved. Having been constructed in 1930ies, they by a miracle passed through the WW II, after-war depression and have withstood the competition with modern powerboats,” the sportsman wrote in the letter.

Zmitser Smelyanski rose up a Belarusian national white-red-white flag on his yacht.

“I told my English friends about the country, where I was born, about its difficult history and dramatic present. In the sign of support and solidarity with the Belarusian people, fighting for freedom and independence, my friends offered to hoist a Belarusian national flag on our yacht. So we sailed under this flag,” the Belarusian said.
