Belarusian MFA: We won’t impose sanctions on USA

39

“We judge from the fact the sanctions are not a civilised method of solving of debatable situations in the international relations,” Andrei Papou, spokesman of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affaires, said it on a briefing.

He emphasised, Belarus would defend its interests adequately to the situation. “The time will show what method we will choose, what steps we will take in this direction,” A. Papou said.

Commenting on suspension of US visas issuing to Belarusian citizens, A. Papou said the Belarusian party worries about this fact but it was “a question of responsibility of the US party.”

“The American colleagues say they think and care of the Belarusian citizens. They have an opportunity to back up words with deeds,” A. Papou emphasised.

The MFA spokesman drew special attention to the fact the Belarusian embassy in the USA “continued to render consular services to the US citizens” in spite of cutting down the staff.

Answering the question if the Belarusian temporary Charge d’Affaires in Washington leave for Minsk in view of vacation of the US temporary Charge d’Affaires in Belarus, A. Papou said: “We are not looking for a black cat in a dark room.” He also added any Belarusian diplomat had a right for an annual holiday.

The MFA spokesman also added US citizens didn’t work in the Belarusian embassy in the USA.

Jonathan Moore, head of the US diplomatic mission in Belarus, has recently said in an interview to Interfax, the demand of the Belarusians side on reducing embassy staff in Minsk didn’t extend to Belarusian citizens in the embassy staff.
