Dirty technologies of pressure on opposition

Pressure on applicant for MP candidate Iryna Veshtart isn’t calming down, but increasing.

Iryna Veshtart registered her initiative group in Smarhon district commission 59 on Monday, 21 July. She felt she became a victim of intimidation. At first, her door to the apartment was painted, then doorlock was damaged and window broken with a stone.

A new wave of pressure started on 25 July with two incidents. Veshtart’s cell phone was attacked by calls from men, who found her phone number at an internet page in intimate section.

On 25 July, small leaflets with text in Russian were spread round the city allegedly on behalf of I. Veshtart. They said she was going to run for MP and asked to help her with 5,000 Belarusian rubles. The leaflets also contained her contacts – address and phone number, Vyasna human rights center reports.
