Head of the Central Election Commission said she felt soul-chilling terror of Zyanin Paznyak, leader of the Conservative Christian Party of the Belarusian Popular Front.

On a question of “KP v Belarusi” if the CEC head turns attention to political brands and if she looks to which party a candidate belongs, Yarmoshyna answered:

“Of course, I look. I will never vote for a candidate from the BPF. I remember times their first leader Zyanon Paznyak. When I saw him at sessions, I became so frightened, I felt soul-chilling terror. What a disgusting feeling! That is why everything connected with the Belarusian Popular Front is unacceptable for me.”

Yarmoshyna told what candidates she liked:

“Appearance is of great importance for a candidate. It is the first rule that is still active. Secondly, it is CV. People like military men, young people and male candidates. They also like doctors and teachers, in other words, clerisy. Governmental officials are not very popular. People like investigators, prosecutors, judges, in other words, lawyers on high posts. Journalists have good reputation. The same as actors. Though we have just one actor in the parliament – Davydzka... A person who has successful career should run for parliament in preretirement age, otherwise he or she will spoil their career... I am astonished at people, who are good professionals, but run for MPs. Maybe they have become tired of their jobs?”

On a question when electronic voting system will be introduced in Belarus, Yarmoshyna said:

“It is possible, though I am totally against. Maybe books, newspaper, voting ballots will disappear, but will it bring joy? Is Internet shopping can be compared with normal shopping? Election is a ritual: visiting of a voting station, bar, concert and so on. They are democratic rituals, they make people interested in state affaires. Maybe we will introduce this system one day, but it’s too early now to speak about it. Moreover, there’s a danger of human factor. Hackers break into CIA systems! What if they break into the system and change results of elections?”

On a question if opposition is necessary for parliament, Yarmoshyna said:

“From the one hand, yes, it is necessary, some like it hot. An opposition group inn the “parliament” stirs up the majority, put sharp questions, minister is anxious when he visits parliamentary sessions... it is a positive moment. But the opposition often blocks the work to make a name for themselves in order the electorate know them, to create a scandal. It is not constructive.

For example, MP weren’t able to choose a chairman of the Belarusian parliament for a week in 1995. It happened the same what is now happening in Ukraine. Everyone tried to satisfy his ambitions. Maybe we our democracy is unripe and people haven’t used to it yet.”

Yarmoshyna also told an astonishing fact – she has fans.

A “KP v Belarusi” journalist said: “Candidates try to look well at pictures... There was a picture of you on the Internet, it was marvellous, our officials should learn!” Yarmoshyna said: “Yes, I remember, this photo was published in a newspaper. A voter even wrote to me, ‘What a Hollywood pretty is this? Please return Yarmoshyna to us!’ yes, I have fans! They write to me on address like ‘Yarmoshyna, Minsk’ or ‘Yarmoshyna, electoral commission’. And I receive such letters!”
