Saulius Peceliunas: “I do not think serious changes have taken place in politics of Belarus”

A member of the Lithuanian Sejmas’ parliamentary group “For Democratic Belarus”, Homeland Union Political Group member Saulius Peceliunas calls upon the authorities of Lithuania not to hurry softening the policy of isolation against Belarus.

“Judging by today’s facts global conclusions cannot be arrived at that something is changing in the policy of Belarus towards its citizens and their freedoms. I do not think that serious changes have taken place in the politics of Belarus. Thank you for releasing a few persons, but how many are still imprisoned, how many abducted and others arrested are there? One should look at the real meaning, not at some details,” he stated in an interview to the website Delfi.lt.

“There is policy towards the citizens of Belarus, and the policy towards the regime and the parliament. These are different things. And I haven’t heard so far any preconditions for changing anything in these attitudes. Lithuania can have some its own views here, but still everything has to be agreed upon with the EU. There cannot be one’s own personal policy in that. There can by some of the finer points,” Saulius Peceliunas said.
