On September 11 Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov visited Warsaw. He stated that Moscow hasn’t changed it s negative attitude towards deploying elements of the US anti-missile system in Poland.
Lavrov’s Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski noted during the joint press-conference that Poland offered “to build an atmosphere of trust”. Ministers expressed satisfaction over the trade turnover between the countries and assured that the joint commission on problematic issues of Polish-Russian relations would continue its work.
Meanwhile, a picket of about a dozen of Belarusians and Poles took place near the residence of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk with whom Lavrov met. The picketers demanded to stop Russian interference in Georgia, Belarus and other countries.
“Russia has demonstrated its real imperial face in Georgia. Belarus, Ukraine and possibly Poland could be the next. It’s a pity that the West seem not to understand that, and wants to continue being diplomatic with Moscow,” one of the participants of the picket said.
The participants were holding a poster: “Take Putin to Nuremberg”.
It is the first visit of the Russian Foreign Minister to the EU country after the Russian aggression against Georgia.
