Viktar Ivashkevich: “Lukashenka will tear up agreements with EU the same as riot militiamen tore up European flags”

Deputy head of the Belarusian Popular Front Viktar Ivashkevich thinks the authorities demonstrated how “parliamentary election” would in Belarus look like by crackdown of a solidarity action on September 16.
“I carried two flags – a national white-red-white one and a EU one. Two riot militiamen attacked me at intersection of Internatsyanaknaya and Yanka Kupala Streets. They seized flags from my hands and tore them up!
Candidates for “members of parliament” should know that they have no privileges. Attitude of the authorities towards the democrats haven’t been changed. The riot militia showed today how the “parliamentary election” would look like. Surrounded by the riot militia, the opposition candidates will be guarded “to the end” and then be beaten. This is called “democratic election”. And Lukashenka will tear agreements with the EU the same as riot militiamen tore up European flags,” Viktar Ivashkevich told in an interview to the Charter’97 press center.
