Another democratic candidate withdrew

Deputy head of Hrodna region organisation of the Belarusian Popular Front Stanislau Sudnik withdrew his candidature from the “parliamentary election”. As the politician thinks, this “election“ will not be free and fair.

Stanislau Sudnik was a candidate in Lida city constituency #54. After his withdrawal, the “election” will be non-alternative: only one candidate, representative of the authorities, remained officer of the Lida region executive committee.

“I fulfilled the decision of the BPF Soim of August 30 and withdrew my candidature, obeying the party,” Stanislau Sudnik told in an interview to the Charter’97 press center.

According to the politician, “this “election” will be as unfair as the previous one”.

“There are no representatives of the democratic forces in polling station election commissions in actual fact, so it’s obvious that it won’t be open. The “election” doesn’t meet the international standards and shouldn’t be recognised free and democratic,” the BPF activist believes.

It should be reminded that on 30 August, the BPF Soim (Council) decided to withdraw party MP candidates before September 23 due to mass violations of the election laws by the authorities and inability of having the free election. The rest opposition parties will define their position on running or non-running in the election farce on September 21.
