Viktar Ivashkevich “It’s up to you to decide who you are”

“Every Belarusian citizen is facing a choice whether to moan in the kitchen, post comments on the net or to act”, vice chairperson of the Belarusian People’s Front (BPF) party Viktar Ivashkevich said.

“The BPF party claimed that the “parliamentary” elections cannot be considered free and democratic. The political council of the United Civil Party came out with the same statement. We urge people to come out to the square and speak against this fake voting, demand another free election”, the politician said in an interview to the Charter’97 press-center.

According to Ivashkevich, another goal that the action of September 28 has is to call upon European institutions to reject the outcome of the elections. “In Europe there are certain groups that are eager to recognize the outcome of this “election” no matter how democratic it is. Thos who disagree should come out to the square. Every Belarusian citizen is facing a choice whether to moan in the kitchen, post comments on the net or to act. Everyone is to choose” vice chairperson of the BPF said.

“I’ve been taking part in such actions since 1987. Back then I was told that the soviet system cannot be undermined, but the mass demonstrations in August 1991 lead to political changes – Belarus gained independence, the communist party was outlawed, the Belarusian people could hold democratic voting. Everyone chooses a way to fight the evil, but the action of September 28 which is to be held on Kastrychnitskaya Square at 8 p.m. is a common concern. This is how we can express our firm position. I cannot support the position to give up and focus on internal emigration. To come out to the square is about moral choices and psychological demonstration of disagreement with the regime, with the lies that we have to consume. Everyone has to decide whether to give up or to fight for the future”, Viktar Ivashkevich emphasized.
