Zyanon Paznyak: Brussels should stop its signals to Lukashenka

6

On September 25, Zyanon Paznyak, head of the Conservative Christian Party of the Belarusian Popular Front, sent an open letter to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Appreciating the interest of the Council of Europe and the OSCE in monitoring the parliamentary election in Belarus, I would like to ask you to stop pressure on participants of the election process with the aim of forcing them to take part in the election and in falsified voting.

The current election campaign in Belarus carries out in extremely undemocratic conditions, which is proved by numerous facts, known to representatives of the OSCE and the PACE. Such election can’t be recognised a priori as normal by the democratic community.

At the same time, demagogy and blackmail of usurper of presidential power in Belarus A. Lukashenka know no measures. Here is A. Lukashenka’s quotes from his interview to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and The Financial Times: “Brussels has lately showed signals it is ready to normalise the relations with us after the parliamentary election. Let’s see at Europe’s behaviour after the election. If the West does not recognise the results of parliamentary election, then we won’t spend time assuring Europe that Belarus is the center of Europe and a very useful country for Russia.”

I would like to turn your attention to the fact that trade of Belarusian interests in democratic values, offered by Mr Lukashenka, is absolutely unacceptable for the democratic policy.

I hope that veiled “signals of Brussels” to the Minsk dictator on recognition of the undemocratic election in Belarus as democratic will be stopped.

Undemocratic election and sneering at common sense can’t be recognised normal. The elected under these condition parliament can’t be considered as legitimate.

With best regards,

Zyanon Paznyak,

Head of the Conservative Christian Party of the Belarusian Popular Front "Revival"
