Public activist of Asipovichy Ihar Simbirau was returned newspapers, seized by militia on March 28.

The activist was one of the first victims of mass searches, carried out all over Belarus at the end of last March, Radio Svaboda reminds.

Searches were conducted by militia and KGB officers in frameworks of a criminal case in insult of Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

At the end of last year, Ihar Simbirau applied the prosecutor’s office of the Asipovichy district against actions of militiamen, who, according to him, unlawfully burst into his apartment and seized his newspapers without any grounds and didn’t want to return them.

On March 28, he was confiscated 15 copies of independent newspapers. There were many old issues of officially registered editions among them.

Besides Ihar Simbirau, five journalists were searched in the Mahilou region. They were confiscated office equipment, electronic data storage media and printed materials. Four computers were seized from the private public center “Circle of Friends”, which headquarters are in Mahilou.

All seized things were returned to owners in October and November. Simbirau was the last.
