Court seized last money from oppositionists

For three months Vitsebsk-based oppositionist Alyaksandr Salayan cannot receive wages, as Chyhunachny district court arrested his bank account.

Court officers explained to Mr Salayan that in this way they exacted fines for participation in oppositional rallies which hadn’t been paid by him, Radio Svaboda informs.

The oppositionist from Vitsebsk does not pay fines on principle; he says that he does not want support authorities, which he considers to be illegally elected. The total sum of fines over several last years is more than 10 million rubles.

According to the legislation, the court has a right to recover only 20 % of every month wages, when wants to receive money from the accused. And as there are no other money on Salayan’s account except wages from the construction association No. 9, officers of the court had to agree that the account was arrested illegally.

The oppositionist was promised a year ago that court decision would be changes, but today the account was still arrested.

Alyaksandr Salayan was to quit his job in construction association where he worked as a carpenter, with a wages of 300-400,000 a month. Otherwise, according to court ruling, he would have to work for free several years, in order to pay all fines, or to starve to death.
