Plants paying with tinned meat

Leading enterprises of Orsha do not have money to pay their employees.

While many Belarusians were trying to spend their Belarusian rubles on goods, employees of the Orsha Meat Processing Plant had another trouble. They received their last wages with three boxes of canned meat, moreover, the administration made people file applications allegedly they wanted this form of payment, Radio Svaboda reports.

Anatol, working in canning shop, had to sell tinned food to neighbours and friends for cash, but he can’t earn much:

“I received canned meat instead of my rather low wages – 400-500,000 rubles. The plant has no money, they must pay taxes and electricity bills. The most interesting thing is that we were given canned food at new prices, 9,000 and 9,200 rubles, though it costs 7,000 in shops. I can sell it only at 3,500, because nobody likes it. If I can sell it at 3,500, but have to pay 9.200 for it, it is ridiculous!” the worker tells.

Employees of the meat processing plant were said they couldn’t refuse to get payments with canned food, otherwise they could be put on the list of candidates for dismissal. The only thing we can choose is kind of meat: for example, people can choose between canned pork, beef, or baby food meat. By the way, only baby food is rather popular. Though a new line of packing baby food (it was announced about it opening ahead of last Dazhynki fest), hasn’t’ been started. What concerns other products, Orsha dwellers prefer canned food from Vaukavysk, produced from better materials. The Orsha Meat Processign Plant buys imported deep frozen meat.
